Chris Burch is an American business mogul with investments in and outside of America. He has business interests in the American fashion industry and real estate among others. In 2012, Burch and James McBride—an entrepreneur with business interests in the hospitality industry acquired a beach hotel from a New Jersey couple. The hotel is located on the Indonesian island of Sumba. After spending $30 million upgrading the hotel, the duo re-opened the face lifted facility in 2015. Since then, the five-star hotel, Nihiwatu, has been the talk of the town regarding its magnificent structures and impressive services. Check forbes.com for a related article.
Nihiwatu boasts of 27 luxury villas with plunge pools. Burch’s private home, Raja Mendaka, is one of the villas. Raja Mendaka has four villas and the main house whose plunge pool has a magnificent view of the Nihi Beach and the Indian Ocean. The cost of a one-bedroom private villa during the off-peak season is $750 per night while the cost of Raja Mendaka is close to $14000 per night during the peak season: a small price to pay for the kind of comfort the facility provides.
Nihiwatu also features two tree houses. A bamboo bridge joins the two structures. The architects were careful to incorporate traditional Sumbanese antiques, local wood, and Ikat prints into the design of the villas and the tree houses.
The guests of the hotel enjoy the services offered by the facility either in their rooms or outside on the beach. For instance, spa treatments are available on demand either in the rooms or at the beach. Also, the facility has a wellness center with dedicated instructors. Yoga sessions are part of the wellness centers. Guests who wish to be provided with private classes are free to request trainers to assist them at their convenience. What’s more Nihiwatu’s beach is considered the best place for surfers. The beach is strategically located in the path of the swells generated by the Southern Ocean storms. Surfing lessons are also offered to individuals depending on their mastery level of the sport. Excursions are also available for guests to book.
